WWE SmackDown, World Wrestling Entertainment’s live program that’s been on the air since 1999 is coming live to the BMO Harris Bradley Center!
WWE SmackDown (aka SmackDown!) was launched on April 29, 1999 on the United Paramount Network (UPN) TV network and it was created to complement RAW (WWE’s flagship show) as the second of WWE's two main weekly programs. After the merger of UPN with the Warner Brothers TV network, SmackDown began airing on the CW network. During the show’s early years, Dwayne Johnson (aka The Rock) routinely referred to Smackdown as “his show” because the word was part of one of his catchphrases (Lay the smackdown). In 2002, the show became part of WWE’s brand extension program in which the organisation split into two divisions, each with distinct rosters, story lines and authority figures. It was decided that RAW and Smackdown would become the head of each division and compete against each other. The decision was caused by the doubling of WWE’s roster and championship titles due to it buying its 2 largest competitors; World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW). Over the years, many renowned musicians and bands such as Jim Johnston, Marilyn Manson, Drowning Pool, Green Day, CFO$, and Fall Out Boy have created Smackdown’s theme music.
